Borsa Italiana is a company that manages the Italian financial market, commonly known as the Milan Stock Exchange, which was founded in 1808 and is the ninth oldest stock exchange in the world (behind Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Paris, Vienna, Dublin, Brussels and London) and the sixteenth most important [unclear] of the world.

The company was founded in 1998 by the privatization of stock markets.

From 23 June 2007, following the merger with the London Stock Exchange (London Stock Exchange plc), Borsa Italiana SpA is part of the London Stock Exchange Group, a holding company that controls 100% of Borsa Italiana S.p.A. and 100% of London Stock Exchange plc., which - in March 2016 - announced the merger project with Deutsche Boerse.

In 2017, the Milan Stock Exchange, preceded only by the stock exchange in Athens, up 24.7%, was the second best in Europe thanks to the FTSE All Share index, which rose by 15.6%.

The weight of Borsa Italiana is growing on the total economy of Italy, in fact the total capitalization of listed companies in April 2018, stands at 688.3 billion, up 22.7% compared to 524.9 billion at the end of 2016 The capitalization of Piazza Affari - indicates the annual Review of Borsa Italiana - is equal to 37.8% of GDP, against 31.8% in 2016 and 34.8% in 2015.
